Said to be cool About Schmidt movie (A proposito di Schmidt).

Movie Premier in 2002.

CONT: Warren Schmidt's locale address be timetabled via manner of 5042 Farnam Street contained by favour of highest of the motion graphic, but at the running out, when he get the missive from the nun, the address next to the packet is listed as 5402 Farnam Street (although, admittedly, it is not unheard of for mis-addressed stake to be delivered)., CONT: The position of the purple napkin when Schmidt is being fed the soup in bed., CONT: During a conversation between Schmidt and his daughter, his sandwich changes from a fairly sparse one to a somewhat plumper one. It subsequently returns to its original thin shape., CONT: During the conversation between Warren Schmidt and his daughter after the funeral, his right hand changes position on the glass of milk between the shots., CONT: The broccoli changes position between shots on Schmidt's plate during Ray's speech., CONT: The vacuum cleaner behind Jeannie during Warren's lunch moves between shots., CONT: The sky during Warren's confrontation with Ray alternates between sunny and overcast., GEOG: When Warren is in Colorado, there are Nebraska license plates on cars parked in driveways., CONT: When Warren uses a payphone to call Ray, he is asked to press "3" to erase his message and re-record. He actually presses the # key., CONT: Also in the payphone segment, a pickup truck that has begun leaving a parking lot in the background in the wide shot is nowhere to be seen in the background a split-second later when the shot goes to close-up., CONT: When Warren Schmidt leaves Roberta Hertzel's house to go and sleep in his RV, the RV is noticeably tilted to the right due to its being parked on the side of the street. When he is inside, it is perfectly level., CONT: Throughout the retirement dinner, Warren Schmidt is wearing a small gold pin on the left lapel of his suit jacket. When he arrives home from the function and takes the phone call from his daughter, the pin is missing., CONT: In the opening scene, while Warren Schmidt is sitting in his office watching the clock, the telephone, and especially the phone cable, repeatedly change positions on the desk between shots., CONT: The seasons change back and forth, between winter and summer. Sometimes the trees are bare, but in the next scene, they're full again. At the beginning of the movie, the trees are bare and it's gray and cold. Yet, two weeks later he leaves on his trip and it's summer all of a sudden., SYNC: After Warren returns to find his wife sprawled on the floor, the vacuum is seen to be unplugged. Despite this, a vacuum is still heard running loudly., CONT: When Warren returns home from his journey to Denver which has presumably taken several weeks, you can see a vase of fairly fresh-looking flowers at the top left of the shot., CHAR: In the shot where Warren and Helen pull up to the restaurant for Warren's dinner there is a sign that announces Warren's retirement dinner. On the sign the word "retirement" is spelled "retirment."
Larry Hertzel: All I be doing was friendly somebody into the nearest and dearest.::Roberta Hertzel: Larry, we've be welcome next to you, thank you as a consequence a great deal, presently would you humour lately bring back drunk your fucking milk and seal the fuck conscious., Warren Schmidt: You're making a big mistake, don't marry this guy, don't do it.::Jeannie Schmidt: What are you talking about?::Warren Schmidt: The other night I had a dream and it was very real. Your mother was there and you were there and your aunt Estelle. And there was a... well, it wasn't really a spaceship, it was more like a blimp or an orb of some kind. And then a bunch of weird creatures came out and started trying to take you away, and you wanna know what? They all looked like Randall. Do you understand? And I was jumping up and down to save you., Roberta Hertzel: You already know how famously they get along as friends, but did you know that their sex life is positively white hot? The main reason both of my marriages failed was sexual. I'm an extremely sexual person, I can't help it, it just how I'm wired, you know, even when I was a little girl. I had my first orgasm when I was 6 in ballet class. Anyway, the point is that I have been always very easily aroused and very orgasmic, Jeannie and I have a lot in common that way. Clifford and Larry, they were nice guys, but they just could not keep up with me. Anyway, I don't want to betray Jeannie's confidence, but let me just assure you that whatever problems those two kids may run into along the way, they will always be able to count on what happens between the sheets to keep them together. More soup?::Warren Schmidt: Eh... no, I think I'm fine now., [repeated line]::Warren Schmidt: Dear Ndugu..., Warren Schmidt: You can't marry him. I mean... Look at these people!, Roberta Hertzel: People used to think it was strange 'cause I breast-fed him 'til he was almost five, but I say - hunh, just look at the results!, Jeannie Schmidt: All of a sudden you're taking an interest in what I do? You have an opinion about my life *now*? Okay, you listen to me. I am getting married the day after tomorrow and you are going to come to my wedding and you are going to sit there and enjoy it and support me or else you can just turn right around right now and go back to Omaha., Warren Schmidt: You're not gonna believe this. We had a tire swing over there., [Warren is on top of the motor home under a starry night]::Warren Schmidt: Helen, what did you really think of me, deep in your heart? Was I really the man you wanted to be with? Was I? Or were you disappointed and too nice to show it? I forgive you for Ray. I forgive you. That was a long time ago, and I know I wasn't always the king of kings. I let you down. I'm sorry, Helen. Can you forgive me? Can you forgive me? [a shooting star passes by], Warren Schmidt: Well Ndugu, I'll close now. You probably can't wait to run and cash this check and get yourself something to eat., Warren Schmidt: I know we're all pretty small in the big scheme of things, and I suppose the most you can hope for is to make some kind of difference, but what kind of difference have I made? What in the world is better because of me?, Warren Schmidt: I'd like a blizzard with vanilla ice cream.::Dairy Queen Employee: Ok. What would you like on it?::Warren Schmidt: Uhh... I'll have the Reese's Pieces... and some cookie dough.::Dairy Queen Employee: And what size?::Warren Schmidt: ...medium., Warren Schmidt: Relatively soon, I will die. Maybe in 20 years, maybe tomorrow, it doesn't matter. Once I am dead and everyone who knew me dies too, it will be as though I never existed. What difference has my life made to anyone. None that I can think of. None at all., Helen Schmidt: [her last words to Warren Schmidt] Don't dilly-dally.

The shot where Schmidt has dozed off while writing a letter in his bathtub is supposed to resemble the Jacques-Louis David painting "Death of Marat"., Listed on a cinema marquee: (Left) Closed for repairs / (Right) _Sideways (2004)_ (qv), the next movie directed by 'Alexander Payne (I)' (qv)., The church shown during the wedding rehearsal is in Boulder, Colorado, 20 miles northwest of Denver. The church can be seen on the right from Hwy. 36 just as you enter town., Scenes supposedly taking place at the University of Kansas were actually shot at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln., The production crew created a lifetime Endowed Scholarship for the real-life Ndugu, 'Abdallah Mtulu' (qv), through the real Childreach organization., The scene where Warren is swinging on the monkey bars was filmed at Steinhart Park, in Nebraska City, Nebraska., A scene that echoes 'Jack Nicholson' (qv)'s famous diner scene in _Five Easy Pieces (1970)_ (qv) (his exchange with the waitress) was in an early cut of the movie in which Schmidt concedes in a cowardly fashion to the dictates of the waitress. Though the preview audience went wild over it, director 'Alexander Payne (I)' (qv) cut it from the final film because he felt that the scene was too much of a pointed reference to Nicholson's iconography and that something so referential took the audience out of the film., The movie theater that Warren drives by before he goes to the museum to look at the arrowheads is the Pioneer 3 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. The "museum" is a Civil War museum in the same town, just down the street., The Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society is an actual organization. 'Jack Nicholson' (qv) filmed his scenes at the company's offices and was given a plaque making him an honorary Woodmen member., The word "Ndugu" means "brother" literally in Kiswahili (same as Swahili). It is also used as slang for "friend" as in the US., The film's plot involves the children's charity "Childreach". Since 2002, the year of the film's release, the organization has referenced the film and featured its poster in its literature for prospective child sponsors., Once the filmmakers bought the rights to the 'Louis Begley' (qv) novel, they kept the title and the main character but changed just about everything else. In the book, the main character lived in the Hamptons and his daughter was about to marry a lawyer., The person Warren listens to on his car stereo is famous conservative talk show host 'Rush Limbaugh' (qv)., 'Melissa Hanna' (qv), who plays "Dairy Queen Employee", is an actual employee of the Dairy Queen in Omaha, Nebraska where her scene was filmed., Other actors were also in the movie but cut before release. These were (with their character names): 'Tim Driscoll (I)' (qv) (Grocery Store Manager) and 'Jeff Morris (I)' (qv) (Farmer at Gas Station)., 'Thomas Haden Church' (qv) was originally considered for Randall., Nationally syndicated political cartoonist Jeff Koterba had a walk-on role in the film; however, it was cut from the final version., For the role of Roberta Hertzel, 'Shirley Jones (I)' (qv) was considered but lost the part to 'Kathy Bates (I)' (qv)., When 'Jack Nicholson' (qv) received the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama, he commented afterward, "I'm a little surprised. I thought we had made a comedy.", The exterior shots of the "fraternity house" are of the actual Delta Delta Delta house at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln., The word Warren finds when doing the puzzle in his study is "Vassal" the solution to the puzzle is "Tabs on the tabs".

The Movie - Beat the Devil

Leads the ratings - Beat the Devil movie (Schach dem Teufel).

Movie Is being made - in 1953.

FAKE: When we see the daily article against all side Vanmeer's elimination, impetuous inwardly the display, singular the earliest paragraph belong to the anecdote; what we can see of the second and third paragraph be about a involve in sustain of hot conservatory building., CONT: Inside the car, Billy has a long lit cigarette in his right hand, but soon after, when he steps down, the cigarette has disappeared., CONT: When Billy, Peterson and the driver push the car for the first time, there are four suitcases tied on its rear. When they do it for the second time, there are only three higher suitcases. And when the car falls in the cliff, the four suitcases from the beginning reappear., CONT: When the boat arrives at shore and the group come out of the sea, Billy walks after Peterson and stops just behind him. In the next shot, shown from the front, Billy appears on the left side of Peterson., BOOM: In Harry and Gwendolyn's first dialog scene on the street, the shadow of a boom microphone can be seen on the wall behind them.
Billy Dannreuther: The only thing standing between you and a watery grave is your wits, and that's not my idea of adequate protection., O'Hara: Time. Time. What is time? Swiss manufacture it. French hoard it. Italians squander it. Americans say it is money. Hindus say it does not exist. Do you know what I say? I say time is a crook., Ahmed: Your demands are very great, under the circumstances.::Billy Dannreuther: Why shouldn't they be? Fat Gut's my best friend, and I will not betray him cheaply., Purser: Do you know that your associates are all in hoosegow? Oh, not that I'm a bit surprised. I put them down as thoroughly bad characters, right off the bat. But then there are so many bad characters nowadays. Take mine, for instance., Petersen: You mean Mrs. Chelm is an unqualified liar?::Billy Dannreuther: Well, let's say she uses her imagination rather than her memory., Gwendolyn Chelm: Harry, we must beware of these men. They are desperate characters.::Harry Chelm: What makes you say that ?::Gwendolyn Chelm: Not one of them looked at my legs!, Billy Dannreuther: Trouble with England, it's all pomp and no circumstance. You're very wise to get out of it, escape, while you can., O'Hara: I give you my word, I feel to you like an older brother. Oh, it's not so much a difference of age. It's probably, yes, the reason is, because I come from a culture which is so much older than yours. In my country, a child of 6 years old is older in his heart than you'll be at, at 60.::Billy Dannreuther: It smokes, it drinks, it philosophizes... at this rate I'll be 60 before you get to the point., Billy Dannreuther: I've got to have money. Doctor's orders are that I must have a lot of money, otherwise I become dull, listless and have trouble with my complexion.::Gwendolyn Chelm: But you're not like that now, and you haven't any money.::Billy Dannreuther: It's my expectations that hold me together., Ahmed: [to Dannreuther] I believe you must have Arab blood. Westerners are not usually so subtle., Ahmed: Our country is in a state of unrest.::Petersen: Oh, I am sorry!
Jack Clayton, the Scotland Yard inspector played by 'Bernard Lee (I)' (qv), is named after the film's cameraman, 'Jack Clayton (I)' (qv), who later became a well-known director., Claud Cockburn (aka 'James Helvick' (qv)) wrote the screenplay based on his novel. 'Truman Capote' (qv) was purportedly brought to complete the script late in the piece when Cockburn left or was fired., 'Humphrey Bogart' (qv) was involved in a serious automobile accident during production of this film, which knocked out several of his teeth and hindered his ability to speak. 'John Huston (I)' (qv) hired a young British actor noted for his mimicry skills to rerecord some of Bogart's spoken lines during post-production looping. Although it is undetectable when viewing the film today, it is 'Peter Sellers' (qv) who provides Bogart's voice during some of the scenes in this movie., 'William Styron' (qv)'s second novel, "Set This House on Fire", describes a film crew on location--obviously based on director 'John Huston (I)' (qv) and gang during the shooting of this film. The town in the novel is Ravello on Italy's Amalfi Drive, where most of the film was shot., 'John Huston (I)' (qv) was star/producer 'Humphrey Bogart' (qv)'s first choice to direct. However, Huston had some scheduling conflicts -- he was due to make a movie with 'Katharine Hepburn' (qv) (which was never made, as Hepburn graciously stepped aside to help out Huston), not to mention that he had to finish his then-current project _Moulin Rouge (1952)_ (qv). 'Nicholas Ray' (qv), who Bogart had worked with twice before, was considered to direct in case Huston could not finish in time., At one point in the film, 'Ivor Barnard' (qv)'s character is referred as the "galloping major". This is the title of a film from 1951, also made by Romulus Productions, and starring 'Basil Radford' (qv). _The Galloping Major (1951)_ (qv) in this other film is a racehorse., This was the third and last movie that 'Humphrey Bogart' (qv) would make with 'Peter Lorre (I)' (qv). The other two were the classics _Casablanca (1942)_ (qv) and _The Maltese Falcon (1941)_ (qv).

The older of two children with 'Lauren Bacall' (qv), 'Stephen H. Bogart' (qv), discussed his relationship with Bogie in 1996 book, "Bogart: In Search of My Father"., New York Times reported on 12/25/2000 that "Humphrey Bogart was born on 23 January 1899, but Warner Brothers publicity decided that a Christmas birthday would be far more advantageous because 'a guy born on Christmas can't be all bad.'" However, copies of two 1900 census forms prove this to be incorrect., (October 1997) Ranked #9 in Empire (UK) magazine's "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time" list., Bogart's speech defect (lisping) does not appear in the German dubbings of his voice, which is also lower., There is some dispute as to how Bogey's lip injury occurred. One story is that when Bogart was in the Navy, a prisoner he was escorting attempted to escape and hit Bogart in the face with his shackles. Bogart, fearing that he would lose his position and be severely punished for letting a prisoner escape, chased down the man and brought him successfully to the Portsmouth Naval Prison. However, because the surgeon who stitched up his face did not do a very good job, Bogart was left with his trademark lisp. Another version has it that he caught a large wood splinter in his lip at the age of 12, but the combat story is more exciting - a legend, indeed., Named his daughter Leslie to show his gratitude to 'Leslie Howard (I)' (qv), who got him his big break in _The Petrified Forest (1936)_ (qv)., Interred at Forest Lawn, Glendale, CA, in the Garden of Memory, Columbarium of Eternal Light (not accessable to the general public)., Played chess by mail with GIs during WWII., In _Key Largo (1948)_ (qv), Bogie takes the helm of a boat called the Santana. In real life, Santana was the name of Bogie's yacht, which he purchased from 'June Allyson' (qv) and 'Dick Powell (I)' (qv)., His coffin contains a small, gold whistle, put there by his wife, 'Lauren Bacall' (qv)., Was nicknamed "The Last Century Man" because he was born on Christmas Day 1899 (based on the popular belief that the 19th Century ended in 1899, not 1900 as it really was)., Decades after his death, Bogie made a guest appearance on the TV horror series _"Tales from the Crypt" (1989)_ (qv). Footage from several movies was computer enhanced and combined with a voice and body double to allow Bogart to receive top billing for the episode "You, Murderer." Guest starring with "Bogie" were 'John Lithgow (I)' (qv) and 'Isabella Rossellini' (qv), performing an eerie (and hilarious) parody of her mother, 'Ingrid Bergman (I)' (qv)., Related to screenwriter 'Adela Rogers St. Johns' (qv); his grandfather and her grandmother were brother and sister., Distantly related to the late 'Princess Diana' (qv), Princess of Wales, through her American relations., Ranked #1 on the American Film Institute's list of the greatest screen actors., Maud Bogart's drawing of her baby Humphrey appeared in a national advertising campaign for Mellin's Baby Food, not as often erroneously reported, for Gerber., Pictured on a 32 US commemorative postage stamp in the Legends of Hollywood series, issued 31 July 1997., Co-starred not only in _Casablanca (1942)_ (qv), the film rated No. 1 on American Film Institute's list of Top 100 U.S. love stories (2002), but in four other films on AFI romance list: _The African Queen (1951)_ (qv), ranked at #xx; _Dark Victory (1939)_ (qv), ranked at #32; _Sabrina (1954)_ (qv),ranked at #54; and _To Have and Have Not (1944)_ (qv), ranked at #60., Starred with his wife 'Lauren Bacall' (qv) in the syndicated radio program "Bold Venture" (1951-1952). His character's name was Slate Shannon., Was of English, Dutch, Spanish and Welsh heritage., His preferred brand of cigarettes was Chesterfield., Although usually considered a quiet and accommodating actor by most of his collaborators, he became disliked by 'William Holden (I)' (qv) and 'Billy Wilder' (qv) during the filming of _Sabrina (1954)_ (qv). A good friend before they made the film, Wilder later said that Bogart, near the end of his life, apologized for his behavior on the set and said it was due to his personal problems. Even so, 'Audrey Hepburn' (qv) got along with him despite his criticism of her., At 5'8", he was almost exactly the same height as his beloved wife 'Lauren Bacall' (qv)., He had just turned 57 and weighed only 80 pounds when he died on January 14, 1957., Off the set, he and 'Ingrid Bergman (I)' (qv) hardly spoke during the filming of _Casablanca (1942)_ (qv). She said later, "I kissed him, but I never knew him." Years later, after 'Ingrid Bergman (I)' (qv) had become involved with Italian director 'Roberto Rossellini (I)' (qv), and borne him a child, he bawled her out for it. "You used to be a great star," he said. "What are you now?" "A happy woman," she replied. Bogart's coolness towards Bergman was later revealed to have been caused by the violent jealousy of his wife at the time, Mayo Methot, whose fears were realized when Bogart entered an affair with future wife 'Lauren Bacall' (qv)., Though a poor student, he was a lifelong reader. He could quote 'Plato' (qv), Pope, 'Ralph Waldo Emerson' (qv) and over a thousand lines of Shakespeare. He admired writers, and some of his best friends were screenwriters., He was voted the Greatest Movie Star of all time by Entertainment Weekly., Almost all of the roles that made him a star (after a decade of toiling in minor films) were roles he got because 'George Raft' (qv) had turned them down, from _High Sierra (1941)_ (qv), in which Bogie was first noticed as a viable box office draw, to _Casablanca (1942)_ (qv), which made him a true international star. Ironically, after having been overshadowed by Raft the whole first half of his career, Bogart is today by far the better-known star and is considered the superior actor of the two.
